Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn help South Africa to take a 1-0 lead of the Test series

Winning the first test match by an innings and 6 runs against India, visitors South Africa took a 1-0 lead of the two-match test series. This victory indicates that South African is closer to regain their top position in the ICC Test ranking. Not only that but also they are hoping to clinch a series victory for the first time in their cricket career. It was a disappointing test match between two top ranked teams in ICC Test ranking as cricket fans thought that they could see an exciting and thrilling match between them. However, from the beginning of this match it was controlled by one side. South Africa kept the dominance of this match from first to last. As a result they won the match within four days. South Africa batsman Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn are the heroes of this match. Because of their superb performance South Africa could easily won the match in Indian soil. Hashim Amla was announced player of the match for his heroic century in the first innings.

At first I want to say that South Africa took a right decision to bat first after winning the toss. Touring team declared their first innings after scoring 558 for 6. It became possible because of Hashim Amla’s maiden double century and second triple-hundred partnership along with Jacques Kallis. This pair added 340 runs more in their third wicket stand. Hashim Amla was unbeaten 253 while Jacques Kallis scored 173 runs which was his 34th test century. I have to admit that these two players put South African team in a driving seat.

After Hashim Amla, it was South African fast bowler Dale Steyn who helped his team to get an easy victory. He hauled 7 wickets for 51 at an average of 3.13 which destroyed Indian batting line up in the first innings. However, he got three more wickets in the second innings and finished the match with 10 wickets. Paul Harris was another successful bowler who got 3 wickets in the second innings of Indian cricket team.

Indian players were ordinary in their home ground. After coming to chase such a big score, they were bowled out for 233. However, home team was forced to bat in their second innings to follow on South Africa’s lead. However, Indian cricket team needed more 325 runs to equal South African inning and put some lead in front of them. However, Indian cricket team got all out for 319 on fourth day. Despite Sachin Tendulkar’s 46th test century in the second innings, India had to receive their shameful defeat against South Africa. May be, Mahendra Singh Dhoni had to see his first test defeat as a captain.

However, both India and South Africa will face each other in 2nd test match. This match will take place from 14 February to 18 February 2010. It will be a big challenge for home team as they will struggle hard to remain their top position in the ranking. On the other hand, South African will be eyeing for one more test victory because one victory can help them to reach at the top position.

Sachin Tendulkar got 46th Test century but failed to avoid the defeat by innings margin

India’s most experienced batsman Sachin Tendulkar scored his 46th Test century against South Africa in the first test match at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur. He scored 100 runs off 179 balls including 13 boundaries. It showed Indian cricket team a hope of making strong come back in their second innings and forced the touring team to bat their second innings. Sachin Tendulkar made 70 runs partnership with Mahendra Singh Dhoni in 5th wicket stand. Sachin Tendulkar came to bat at number fourth position when India lost two openers early. At the end of day three, he was not out 15 while Murali Vijay was unbeaten 27. However, Sachin Tendulkar could not make the match memorable because his team can not avoid the defeat by inning margin. South Africa has taken a 1-0 lead of the two-match test series after winning the opening test match by an innings and 6 runs.

Pakistan announced a 14-man squad against England for Twenty20 matches 2010

Pakistan cricket team will play a two Twenty20 matches against England this month. Schedule of this two-match Twenty20 series has already been announced. These matches will be played on 19th February (Friday) and 20th February (Saturday) 2010. Both of the matches will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. It is not scheduled twenty20 series for any of them. However, England cricket team has taken decision to play two more shortest version of cricket games ahead of Bangladesh tour so that they can discover more talented players and take preparation for the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 tournament.

It is an important series for Pakistan cricket team. They are not in good form and even their performance in the recently concluded tour series is not good. Pakistan was whitewashed by Australian cricket team in both ODI and Test. England cricket team is now hot favorite in this series. However, Pakistan cricket team should try hard to win both of the t20 matches and get back their form.

However, Pakistan selectors have already announced a 14-man squad for the upcoming matches. Shoaib Malik is the stand in captain for the first t20 match. You already know that Shahid Afridi can not play in the first t20 match because of his two t20 match ban for ball-tampering.

No doubt, it is going to be an exciting and thrilling series between these two teams. Let us see who will win in this fight.

Pakistan Squad: Imran Nazir, Imran Farhat, Khalid Latif, Umer Akmal, Shoaib Malik (captain), Fawad Alam, Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Sarfraz Ahmad, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Yasir Arafat, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Talha.

Dale Steyn made South Africa’s victory easier against India

South African fast bowler Dale Steyn helped his team to take the dominance of the first test match against India after the end of day three at the Vidarbha Cricket Association stadium in Nagpur. Now, touring team South African is much closer from their first test match victory as India is set to follow on a huge total in their second innings. Dale Steyn’s destructive bowling action bundled out Indian cricket team within a short score. India’s in form opener Virender Sehwag’s century could not save his team avoiding follow on. However, he tried to make a strong protest along with another batsman Subramaniam Badrinath but could not continue it for long time.

India were bowled out for 233 in their first innings. They finished the day with 66 for 2 and they are still 259 runs short from South Africa’s first innings. If India wants South Africa to bat in the second innings then they will have to successfully chase this score and put some lead in front of their opponent team if they want to avoid their defeat by innings margin. Indian cricket team is now facing problem after losing their two openers for 24 runs. Now, Murali Vijay is batting not out for 27 while Sachin Tendulkar scored unbeaten 15.

Dale Steyn took seven wickets for 51. It was his career best performance. Other three wickets were shared by Morne Morkel, Paul Harris and Wayne Parnell. It was Dale Steyn’s 13th time 5-wickets haul in test match.

Virender Sehwag scored 109 runs which was his 18th test century. With this match Subramaniam Badrinath made his test debut for Indian cricket team. He scored a passionate 56 runs off 139 balls. Except them no other players could able to reach double figure. You should be surprised to hear that both Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel struck again in India’s second innings. I think that Dale Steyn will try hard to haul 10-wicket for fourth time in test cricket.

India’s fate is relying on middle order batsmen. If middle order batsmen failed to make good innings then South Africa will get an easy win. This victory will help South Africa to take the lead of the two-match test series. One thing surprised me a lot that South African batsmen treated Indian spinners well. Another important thing is that Indian batsmen could not handle South African pace attack. It seems that twenty20 domestic league is killing Indian national cricket team’s performance. I am waiting to see what Indian cricket team will do to save their top position in ICC Test ranking.

Hashim Amla’s maiden double century put South Africa team in a dominant position

South African cricket team has been set into a driving seat after their middle order batsman Hashim Amla scored a heroic double century after the end of day two in the first test against India. Hashim Amla, who cam to bat at number 3, scored an unbeaten 253 off 473 balls. He hit 22 boundaries during his innings. It was not only his career high test score but also his first double century in the oldest format of cricket game. His previous highest test record was unbeaten 176 runs that came against New Zealand in Johannesburg. He is now thrilled for his best performance against India. This test match should be kept memorable to him and his fans.

However, South Africa declared their first innings 558 for the loss of six wickets. Indian cricket team scored 25 runs without any loss in reply to South Africa’s first innings. Gautam Gambhir scored unbeaten 12 while his partner Virender Sehwag was not out 9. I have to acknowledge that Hashim Amla played a passionate innings. He stayed more than 11 hours on the field. He made a 340-run partnership along with Jacques Kallis in the 3rd wicket stand. It was their second triple partnership between them. This pair made their first triple partnership against New Zealand where they scored 330 in Johannesburg in 2007. Kallis praised his partner for such talented performance. It is true that Amla has developed his game a lot.

Home team India is now under huge pressure. Top order batsmen will have to handle this pressure. Even their coach Gary Kirsten surprised to see such a big chasing score. He said that Indian players need to play well otherwise they will loss the match. He also praised Amla.

Indian pace bowler Zaheer Khan took two important wickets at the beginning of the match. On second day, he took only one wicket. He finished the first innings by taking 3 wickets for 96. Harbhajan Singh got two wickets and Virender Sehwag got one wicket on second day.

India vs South Africa 1st Test 2010: Match Report of Day 1

Today was opening day of the five-day test match between India and South Africa. It seems that coming to bat first after winning the toss was not a wrong decision for South African cricket team as they dominated the first day by scoring 291 for 2 against India at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur. Indian bowler Zaheer Khan gave a good start after taking two wickets early in the innings. South African cricket team was put under huge pressure after losing two openers for 6 runs. However, they could able to make their strong come back in the middle order partnership between Jacques Kallis and Hasim Amla. Jacques Kallis and Hasim Amla made unbeaten score which set them touring team in a good platform. They made 285-run partnership in 3rd wicket stand. Jacques Kallis scored unbeaten 159 runs while his partner Hasim Amla was not out for 115 runs. It was 34th Test century for Jacques Kallis.

Ashwell Prince was one of the unlucky players in this match. He was unjustly given caught out behind the wicket. However, in the video replay it became clear that he was not out either. Ball did not hit his bat but it touched his pad and that created a sound and changed the movement of the ball. Indian bowlers failed to make any protest against their opponent team. Indian selectors used two specialist spinners Harbhajan Singh Amit Mishra. They could not take the benefit of spin ground. However, it was Zaheer Khan who took both two wickets for 67 runs.
